Ink

We've discussed this before on BuffMuscles, but I think it's time for a Forum discussion: Do you like tattoos on a bodybuilder? And if so, how much is too much? And which (if any) tattoos do you think are really sexy?

Well, as you mentioned in a recent personal email to me, Rob24, you indeed DO know my feelings about tats. I can't imagine any scenario wherein a person would actually WANT to get one! If you want people to look at your body, lift weights! Believe me, THEY'LL LOOK!

That said, a random (small) tat does NOT necessarily disqualify a muscular, buff, gorgeous male from giving me a boner.

But please, keep 'em brief... and small.

I think I could stand one tat, maybe on the calf or something. Maybe in the small of the back. On the pecs? NEVER! Arms? NO! And the content of the tat must needs be something strong and powerful. NO butterflies. NO Dora The Explorer-- PLEASE! Barbells, dumbbells, men having sex: YES.

    I'm just sayin'...

Personally I HATE tattoos on the leg! It just seems silly to have them there. Normally I prefer no tats at all on a guy, but I don't mind that barbed-wire thing around the bicep; that's kinda hot.

It seems to me that if one were to get a tat, one should like it SOOOO much that one would never tire of it since it stays for LIFE, regardless of attempts to remove it. Give me the unadorned skin of a masculine, gorgeous male any day. BTW,
I know a young woman (considered hot by some hetero men) who has a large tattoo across the top of her breasts
in solid black. Whenever she wears anything less than a turtleneck, all the guys stare at it (including, gasp, ME......and I,m not interested!!) and don"t even see HER. I wonder if she regrets getting one.

I don't get allll the ink out there these days. Not just on muscle - it's everywhere. Doesn't do a thing for me - at all.

Tats have no effect on me whatsoever. I'd prefer that guys wouldn't mar their body with ink .

I am not big on tats - but I do want to get a bear pride tat on my arm maybe or I have thought about having a pride tat on my lower back - I love the idea going to the beach or somewhere in public and showing my pride via a visible tat.

Tats detract from the beauty of the muscle. Nothing worse than seeing pictures of beautiful, muscular bodies that are marred by a "Superman" or Skull and Cross Bones tat.

Yeah, psumuscle----we're all pretty much in agreement on that. My 3 favorite bodybuilders (Con Demetriou, Sagi Kalev, and Mark Erpelding) don't have a single tattoo among them!

Unless one is Maori, I see no rhyme nor reason for a tattoo, except perhaps if one were a drunken sailor from WWII with one on the forearm, which was subsequently regretted. But the modern craze for tattoos I find grossly morally, intellectually, philosophically, pulchritudinously, stupidly offensive -- and in case you don't get the idea, I hate them! And what I find completely mind-boggling is that those people who LEAST need them in the whole wide world -- the beautiful people: the movie stars who were born with the looks, the body builders who have the bodies one might wish to have (or at least some version of those bodies) -- are the people who now are getting these tattoos which detract from that wonder which is the unadorned, naked human body!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! Don't get me started on an exegesis of this subject!

Is anyone else really disappointed that Zeb Atlas got a sleeve tattoo on his right forearm? He's always been one of my favorites, and seeing that makes me feel like a work of art has been irreparably damaged.

Zeb Atlas has never been one of my personal favorites, but I always did appreciate the fact that he had no ink!!! Until now I didn't know about the sleeve tattoo, and I'm VERY disappointed to hear about it. What are these guys THINKING????

Oh, and by the way......has anybody seen any recent pics of Mark Dalton lately??? He's more ripped than ever.....but sadly, he has added another shitload of useless tats to his already over-the-top body art. Such a tragedy.....

There are many reasons for getting tattoos. Often there is as much or little thought give to the decision as perhaps changing a hair style. However, because some people give little thought to the process, and the results can look very haphazard, that is no reason to condemn the entire process (especially when it's done on muscle beauties). Afterall, if the guy develops his look by working out with weights, and then adds tattoos to the finished look, isn't the same aesthetic sense at work there? How can you admire the 'before', but not the 'after'? If you like the look of the muscles, then you should cut the guy some slack for choosing to enhance his 'look' with ink. Having said that, I'll admit that the great majority of tattoo work does nothing to enhance a guy's 'look', but I'd leave the door open for the possibility of it happening and not disparage anybody for choosing to do it.

Rob24, I'm in agreement with you. Tats do nothing for me except to obscure muscular beauty. In fact,
in most cases, it's a real turn off. It's really sad to see a fabulously cock-hardening guy disfigured this way.
The results of the amount of work it takes to develop even the most "naturally genetically gifted" ought to
    be its own reward.
